Our
first exhibitions for 2007 will be devoted to two artists who are
mainly specialised in drawing. In the big hall, the exhibition on
the Swiss artist Marc Bauer shall gather his whole cycle History
of Masculinity, divided into five chapters which he created
over the last two years. The human figure is represented in extreme
postures, revealing an alternatively latent or exacerbated violence.
The subjects of Marc Bauer's drawings are often related to his own
life, either by means of personal childhood memories or of family
accounts. He often mingles his personal story with painful episodes
of History, especially in his representations of dictators (Mussolini,
Pinochet), supported by archival photographic evidence. His portraits
condensate the characteristic features of his subjects with striking
expressive power. The exhibition on Marc Bauer, whose work we have
presented several times in the past (personal
show in 2001 and participation to the exhibition Buenos
días Santiago - una exposición como expedición in 2005),
will include different series of drawings, big-format prints and
a 7-meter long mural.

The
murals by Dan Perjovschi
will remain in both entrance spaces during Marc Bauer's exhibition.
The cohabitation of such powerful and original stances on contemporary
drawing is no coincidence: it is an occasion to inaugurate the first
collection of attitude's printed editions, the "drawing collection".
Each issue, printed in 500 copies, will present the corpus of drawings
of a particular artist. The issue on Dan Perjovschi will be a facsimile
of the sketchbook he made in November 2006 while preparing his exhibition
at attitudes. As for Marc Bauer, he is now preparing the book which
gathers all the chapters of his cycle History of Masculinity.
The next titles will be announced further on in the year. .

“Reality
is what we perceive of our immediate environment. It is a mental
construction. The History and morality are also constructions. We
need to have a coherent History, this is why we try to bind all
the events with a view to to order and rebuild a coherent narration.
Our History, our scale of values, our way of thinking are irrational.”
(Marc Bauer)

exhibition of Marc Bauer is realised with the support of the République
