Performative Concert by the Compagnie 7273

In concert (a 2007 premier)

Friday 30 November and Saturday 1 December, 8p.m.

We are interested by what we don’t understand. We’ve always worked to divert meaning so that meaning remains open and is forever a theoretical building site. Music is the main theme of this new work. Or more precisely, folk music, a music that bears with it a historical dimension: political in its demands, social in its rallies, esthetic in its performance. There is a fourth point, too: its nonchalant form, and it is that form that interests us; a folk song can transmit a violent message via a bright harmony. We would like to share with the public, in the form of a performative concert, songs sung in “yogurt.” Devoid of meaning, the words will suggest an English-sounding tongue. A few recognizable key terms point toward some probable story. The aim of working on the form of the concert is to elaborate a different choreographic esthetic. The intention here is also to use bodies to create images that might seem to come from an abstract tale of legends.

The music is composed on guitar. The influences spring from the folk scene, Jana Hunter, Leonard Cohen, Smog, T. Rex, Nick Drake, Elliott Smith, Rio en Medio, Tim Fite, Mike Tamburo, Television Hill, Nick Schillace, Human Bell, Sir Richard Bishop, Noah Georgeson, Joanna Newsom, Davidthomasbroughton, Vetiver, Devendra Banhart and so on.
