The
association attitudes was created in 1994 in response to the
need to question the status of art in society, to reconsider the codes
governing its mediation, and to recover in our relationship to artworks,
the aspect of discussion and communication they should stimulate.
The association is a non-profit contemporary art space managed by Jean-Paul
Felley and Olivier Kaeser. In September 1997, after three years of nomadic
activities all over Switzerland, we opened a public space in Geneva.
This space includes an office in which all the activities of attitudes
are managed (intra and extra muros projects), a laboratory-space (70
m2) for exhibitions, video projections and lectures, a library and a
bar. attitudes edits artists multiples and publications related
to its exhibitions.
We seek direct collaboration with artists, by inviting them to create
new works. In each project, we try to provide the best conditions to
ensure a good reception of these works, in a convivial atmosphere.
Our projects include the widest choice of media in use today. We consider
artistic proposals from different countries and different generations
of artists. Among the artistic themes attitudes is interested in, we
can mention those evoking the relationship to other people and to the
social body, the physical and psychological limits of the human being,
the moving boundaries between the public and private spaces or between
fiction and reality.
attitudes is active both in institutional and « off »
contexts, without geographical limits. This independent and nomadic
activity enables us to develop numerous collaborations and to discover
new ways to approach and promote contemporary creation.
